Compare the ultralight Helios XL Straps with the standard Atlas Straps to find the best hammock suspension for your camping style.
Quick answer
Choose the Helios XL Ultralight Hammock Straps when every gram matters and you want a longer reach; stick with the Atlas Straps for a budget-friendly, no-fuss setup that still offers reliable tree protection.
Weight vs durability trade-off
The Helios XL Straps use ultra-strong Silverlite cord to cut weight dramatically—ideal for backpackers who count ounces. Atlas Straps are heavier but use a wider polyester webbing that many campers find easier to handle and more forgiving on tree bark.
Length and adjustability
Helios XL Straps are extra long (over 12 feet per strap), giving you more options to find the perfect hang between wide-spaced trees. Their Microtune adjustment system allows fine changes without retying. Atlas Straps are shorter and use daisy-chain loops, which are quick but offer less precise adjustment.
Helios XL vs Atlas: Trade-offs at a glance
- Weight: Helios XL are ultralight (around 1.9 oz per strap); Atlas are heavier (approx 4 oz per strap).
- Length: Helios XL reach over 12 feet; Atlas standard length is about 9 feet. If you camp in forests with wide-spaced trees, the extra length of Helios XL is a clear advantage.
- Adjustment: Helios XL use Microtune for fine increments; Atlas use daisy-chain loops for quick but coarser adjustment.
- Price: Helios XL retail at $31.02 (compared to $44.95); Atlas are typically priced lower.
- Durability: Both are tree-friendly, but Atlas wider webbing may feel more robust for frequent car-camping use.
